I have created this blog to show you how I structure my D.I.T process for films I work on as well as how I create EDL sheets.
D.I.T Process
When I start an edit the first thing I do is back up all the footage and put each day and camera card in specific folders. I do the same for sound as well if it was filmed separately. I then clone the footage onto a hard drive by using Davinci Resolves Clone tool. When the cloning is complete I double check that everything copied over successfully before importing the folders into the software that I am using.
EDL Sheets
The next step is to go through the continuity notes and mark off which takes were the best. Once I am happy with that, I create an edit decision list of what shots I will use. The other shots will be removed from the software project file. If I have time to do so on the project, I also create a sound edit list that simply matches the camera takes name with the sound file name so that it is clear what audio matches to the video files.
In the EDL sheet I like to make it as simple as possible, so it is quick to read and understand in the edit process. I sometimes include thoughts on each take if there's a specific cutting idea, I have but if I don't for the directors thoughts I just read the continuity notes.
